Bodybuilder of the month: Mahmoud Ezz

June 01, 2016

Name: Mahmoud Ezz

Weight: 84kg

Height: 181cm

Age: 26 Years

Education: Higher Physical Education

Current job: Personal Trainer

Body Fat % during competition and off-season: The average off-season body fat percentage is around 7kg. However, during the latest tournament I was able to bring down this figure to 2.5kg.

How did you get into bodybuilding?

My interest in this field sparked when I came to realize that the body is flexible and responds to the way that you treat it. I decided to take control of my body and sculpt it in the way that I saw fit through different dietary plans and training programs that would cater to its varying needs. Physique competitions are more about smart shape and proportionality rather than a sole focus on muscle gain. Through these competitions, I have been able to control my body shape, understand my body’s needs, and push myself to the limit.

What are the main competitions/prizes?

I have participated in both regional and international competitions and have enjoyed it every step of the way. Regionally, I participated in The Show, ranking 15thout of 500 participants. I also entered a competition run by Balance Gym and ranked 9thout of 200. Finally, the latest international competition that I prepared for was Mr. Olympia held in Kuwait. It was an exquisite experience meeting with the 300 participants and discussing their different approaches. I occupied the 7thposition in this fierce competition.

How long do you spend training per week?

On average, I train 5 times a week; however, when I am preparing for a competition, I usually train twice a day: once in the morning with the sole purpose of muscle gain and once more later in the day with a focus on intense abs workouts and cardio to decrease fats. I do not train prior to any competition in order to relax my body.

Who do you look up to as a role model?

Sergi

Do you follow a certain dietary plan?
My dietary plan is fairly adaptable depending on my body’s current needs. The main focus is on muscle gain and fat loss; therefore, a high protein diet is required with foods such as chicken, fish, and eggs, without any added fats. The only fat intake comes from healthy fats such as olive oil, nuts, peanut butter, and avocado. Salad is also my main source of vitamins and fibers, which are essential for muscle gain. In order to avoid fat accumulation, I only eat clean, complex carbs such as fruits, vegetables, sweet potatoes, and nonfat dairy products. However, two weeks before competitions, I eliminate carb intake.

What is your favourite exercise?

I enjoy abs exercises as there are numerous workouts targeting the abs that are successively more difficult and enjoyable.

What is your major dream?

My ultimate aim is to rank in the international Mr. Olympia competition for professionals.
