How did you get into Crossfit?

Up until I discovered Crossfit, I had been just a regular gym guy. I had my routines and my work out methods that I would do at the gym, so I was always used to working out. Four years ago I came across Crossfit. This introduced me into what would become a huge part of my life. Discovering Crossfit changed my life.

What are the main competitions that you have participated in and what are the prizes and positions you have won?

In the past I have competed in the Elfit fitness competition. This competition brings a number of competitors together and crowns the fittest man in Egypt each year. In the 2016 competition, I was awardedFittest Man 35+ in Egypt.

How long do you spend training per week?

I train five days a week, every week throughout the year. I have no off season, so I do my my training constantly in the course of a year.

Who do you look up to as a role model?

A role modelof mine is actually another Crossfit athlete, Neal Maddox. Maddox is 38 years old, yet he doesn’t let that slow him down. As a Crossfit athlete he continues to compete against 20-year-old athletes. Not only does he continue competing against them, but he continues to beat them in competitions!

Do you follow a certain dietary plan? Can you give some hints about it?

As a performance athlete training at least two hours a day, five days a week, it is essential that I eat a lot of carbs. This is common for performance athletes because the carbs fuel the long, grueling workouts. It is important to note though that for performance athletes it is necessary to eat good, healthy carbs along with a substantially high protein intake. This is the dietary plan I stick to and is crucial for performance athletes.

What is your favourite exercise?

Olympic weightlifting is my favourite part of Crossfit. The back squat is my favourite exercise. It builds strong legs, which is the foundation of our sport, but also helps build a stronger core too.

What is your dream?

My biggest dream is to one day make it to the Crossfit Games as a Masters Athlete. I’m neither talented nor naturally gifted, but I just work hard. I believe in the saying, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
