Gaining Ground in Egypt

The Wadi Degla American Football League concluded its preseason action on Friday December 24th with the Maadi Black Panthers named Champions after defeating the New Cairo Golden Lions and the 6th of October Blue Jaguars.
The Panthers defeated the lions with the score of 12 – 8 and Jaguars with the score of 16 – 0 to claim the first ever Wadi Degla American Football League Championship Trophy. Golden Lions Quarterback “Youssef Hamed” was named the offensive Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, and Black Panthers Free Safety “Ahmad Yehia” was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player.

The Wadi Degla American Football League was launched in the Fall of 2010 to help further establish the sport of American football in Egypt. Stemming out of the Wadi Degla American Football Program alongside the Wadi Degla American Football Academy, aim
to introduce the sport to the Egyptian public, build a solid fan base for the sport and gather enough momentum and support
to establish a federation in Egypt and in turn compete on the international level.The sport of American football is played
internationally in more than 75 countries and five continents; currently Egypt is the First African and Middle Eastern Country to embrace the sport. Other Middle Eastern Countries shortly followed suit Like the United Arab Emirates, which started their own
American Football Academy shortly after the Wadi Degla American Football Academy. All Internationa American Football competitions are governed by the international federation of American Football which holds a World Championship tournament every four years. it is one of the most important and major goals of the Wadi Degla American Football program to prepare a generation of American Football Players that can compete on the international level and qualify for the 2015 American Football World Championship Representing the African Continent and the Arab World.

The Wadi Degla American Football League – Spring tournament Kicks off on the 18th of March 2011 and will feature a new addition to the American Football Teams in Egypt, the Cairo Tigers. The four team tournament will last until late April with games played on weekly basis.
