Editors’ Comments:
Every month, the editorial team at Sports & Fitness research the athletic achievements of the past month in order to select the Athlete of the Month. This is a job we take seriously because too often athletes do not get the recognition they deserve. We discuss our ideas with Vodafone who sponsor the page and sometimes we don’t necessarily agree but we work out our differences of opinion and ultimately we end up with the best choice for our readers.

This month there was no need for discussion as both the magazine and Vodafone immediately agreed that the youth of Egypt as a symbol of the revolution deserved the honour. The achievement was not athletic but it embodied many of the traits that make an athlete successful: A sense of honour and fair play, carefully thought out strategy and most of all the willingness to experience pain and discomfort in order to achieve ones goals. We salute these brave young people and thank them for their enormous contribution to a new and better Egypt
